“And fight them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion, all of it, is for Allah. And if they cease – then indeed, Allah is Seeing of what they do.”AL-Quran [8:39]

“O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [from the enemy forces], stand firm and remember Allah much that you may be successful. And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.”Al-Quran [8:45-46]

“That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.”Al-Quran [8:53]

” Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.” Al-Quran [13:11]

“And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, “Indeed, I am of the Muslims. And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.”Al-Quran [44:33-34]

“And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart. And there has come to you, in this, the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers.”Al-Quran [11:120]

“And the eminent among the people of Pharaoh said,” Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land and abandon you and your gods?” [Pharaoh] said, “We will kill their sons and keep their women alive; and indeed, we are subjugators over them. Said Moses to his people, “Seek help through Allah and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah . He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.” Al-Quran [7:127-128]

“O you who believe! Fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).” Al-Quran [9:123]

“So whatever thing you have been given – it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely. And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive, And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend. And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they defend themselves, And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation – his reward is [due] from Allah . Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers. And whoever avenges himself after having been wronged – those have not upon them any cause [for blame]. The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment.” Al-Quran [42:36-42]

Koshur, Angrez and Angreez

In Kashmir, some people consider each and every Angrez (English speaking person) to be a genius, for he/she can speak Angreez (English language). They have a huge obsession with English language. For they think that to be able to speak English propels one into a higher class of humans. It’s considered as something to be shown-off. And when such Kashmiri people meet someone who can speak English fluently and that too with an accent, they are swept off their feet. I vividly remember one such incident, which happened in my village. Although I was a child at that time but the memory is still fresh.

Image

Once a NRK (Non-Resident Kashmiri) came to our village (also his native place) for the wedding ceremony of his sister. He had arrived with his entire family. During one of those days when I went to play in our common playground, I saw that NRK children had also come to play there. It was an interesting scene as all other children from the village encircled them perhaps to know more about them. Out of their curiosity these local children, of whom I was also a part, started asking questions to the outsiders.
As I said, every Angrez is considered to be a genius in Kashmir. I heard one of the local kids asking the eldest of those NRKs, “What is the full form of PTO.” At that time I felt acting as a questioner is a normal thing. Being part of that village shuerjamaat (group of children) I too memorized couple of abbreviations in-case my turn comes. To me and everybody else there seemed nothing odd about the forced question session.
As soon as the first question was asked, other children also eagerly joined in the possible question-answer session. It opened a Pandora’s box, as questions flew in from the circling children. All of them started questions regarding full-form of various abbreviations, which they(I included) had studied in their respective general knowledge books. The confused NRK girl, was constantly pleading them not to ask her ‘questions,’ a request which they didn’t pay any heed to. There seemed to be no end to her torture as questions piled in from every direction. And then what happened next, was quite amazing. One of the big guys present among the mini crowd told the group of children to stop asking her questions. He warned them, “Agar yih English kaer’wuhnaa wunee, bolti gaeswuh band! (You’ll be dumbfound if she starts speaking English).”  What he meant to say was, “Kiddo, she is a genius, she can speak English. Why the hell are you still asking her questions? Isn’t speaking English enough a skill for your skill-testing questions?”

So I figured out that being an English speaking person meant, being a genius. In Kashmir you often come across such people who think on that pattern. Actually for a Kashmiri to be able to speak or converse in English language is quite an achievement, as if he has donned a new life with this new language. We fail to remember that for native English speakers, it’s exactly like what Kashmiri language is to us.
All logics apart one can still find people who think that even native Englishmen speaking English is something great to be talked about. Some people even go a step further, as according to them every English speaking person has to be extra-ordinary. We have so many examples, where we come across people saying, “Angrez chi kalluh aasaan(English people are genius),” or if they have to tell someone that he’s not so good or not so intelligent, they will tell you, “Chikus Angrez chukh? (You ain’t any English?),” or if you try to be stylish or act smart, they will say, “Yet maa lag Angrezgi (Don’t try to be English).’

The phrases are used almost in every walk of life. If you wake up late, skip the work assigned at home, your elders will rebuke you by saying, “Tuaehh kya yet Angrez laaegmitt? (Why are you acting like English people?).” And if you try to do something innovative but unfortunately fail in that, you’ll get to hear, “Yimm kaamih chi sirf Angrezan tagaan (Such works can be done by English people only).” Now, if you don’t want to do something you may dislike, you’ll be teased by saying, “Alaye Angrez haa chhee (Oh! Look at the Englishman).” And if you say something that people don’t understand, or if they don’t want to hear it, they’ll tell you, “Yet maa lag Angrezi (Stop speaking English here).” As if the words Angrez and Angreez stand for everything good, awesome and everything extraordinary that exists in this world. As if these two words are all about luxury and comfort.
The thing about English language and Kashmiri people, that surprises me most is when someone speaks English fluently, they say, “Suhaa oas French chakhaan (He was speaking French).” Now, what’s this connection between French and fluent English, I don’t know, maybe French people do!

We at times, fail to understand that English is nothing more than a language. It’s one such language besides numerous other languages, no doubt an important one. Like others, I am one such Kashmiri for whom English language is an important medium of connection. In every stage of life I have to remain attached to this language and this starts right from the beginning. For the first thing that I was taught in my school, were English letters.

Greater than yourself.

Mark your own greatness.

Mark your greatness.

Our life originated from dead inorganic matter, then the cycles of life reversed itself with additions of complexity and intricacy, and brought us to the present form of life, human beings. Nature took lots of pains to get us here as most intelligent beings or as can be put down, ‘Representatives of Nature’. We, as representatives of nature, as human beings are here as best of creation, and being a representative is not as easy as these words might flow. Now when we are here, it depends on us whether we are going to live forever or just turn back into the dead organic matter we came from, as if we never existed and had been nothing of that great human race. We might be one of those who changed the world or one of those who just changed back into that dead organic matter. We can leave our footprints for world to follow or just turn back into dust and destroy the trails of footprints that someone has left behind. Life is not all about breathing and heart beats, for I have seen dead roaming, with a heart pumping blood and lungs breathing air. Our life isn’t all about us, for the nature as a whole took pains to make us, to create us. So, as a part of this world we also need to take pains for something greater than us. So, we need to work, we need to work for a cause, to bring into this nature something, something greater than us, that will represent us, like we represent nature.
For we are yet to know what it is going to be, imagine, dream, think galore. For we don’t know how to make it, discover, explore. For we are yet to make it, invent. For we need a representative, represent. We, human beings are capable of being greater than ourselves, greater than anything that exists. We just need to get into the realms of arts, sciences and philosophies of our day to day life, to be our own representatives and the greatest of all.
Be thou, thy own representative
for thou art the greatest of all.

Writer’s Writings

Writing is an amazing art. It can present simple things that we come upon daily, in such a way that we are bewitched by writer’s narration of the events. We see how writers describe events like sunrise, sunset, blowing of wind, someone’s smile or similar other things that we’re highly acquainted with in our day-to-day life, and the way we, as normal human beings, fail to observe the minute details of all these events. I’m going to put myself in a writer’s shoes, act like a writer, and describe the event of missing the bus stop where I had to actually board off while I felt asleep. Let’s start:
Image
“When you’re traveling by a public bus and you get to occupy a seat, you feel overwhelmed with joy and happiness. It’s one of those amazingly happy moments when you hide your joy under a gloomy expression of down-turned face. As did happen to me I got to see an empty seat and rushed to occupy it. While I sat dawn I could see lanes, streets rushing past me. Shops and roadside stalls bidding farewell to me. I was excited to be held in such a high esteem, to be loved by the places which I was speeding across and leaving behind. I could see people rushing to their workplaces, people strolling along the footpath,  parents with their children walking hand-in-hand, street vendor waiting eagerly for a passersby to stop and ask for something; people lost in their own worlds, in their own businesses, in their own affairs. While I was envisioning and experiencing all these thoughts and scenes. I was lost in the world of dreams, the world I hold dear to me, I felt asleep, creating similar scenes and events in the different and diverse corners of my brain. Suddenly a jerk woke me up and called upon me to open my eyes and have a look around the world I had left a few moments ago. I could feel my eyes resisting me, and I had to force them open. Slowly I came back to the world, to the bus I was traveling in. I could again see the similar scenes, while the bus was rushing forward leaving many worlds behind its back. But then, suddenly I realized that the place is not familiar to me, the world looks fresh and new. It must be my first venture into this world, and then came a shocker, I had left the bus stop long back where I had to board-off. I tried to lift myself and stand up, the after-effects of my sleepy adventure were still resisting me, but then I gathered enough energy to stand, and called on the bus driver to stop the bus, which he did quite amazingly and in his own unique way. The way he changed the gear, gave me a disheartening look and then applied the brakes which pushed me ahead of the place where I was standing that I had to tightly hold the handle else I would have fallen down like a walnut falls off from the tree when it’s struck by a stone. And finally the bus came to rest just like the walnut does when it falls on the ground. I boarded off, took note of the path that I had to take, and with a huge sigh, started the journey back to the bus stop which I had left behind.”
While a writer will put the series of events, as I’ve tried above. As a ‘normal’ human being the event can be simply put like this:
While  traveling in a bus, I took a seat and felt asleep. When I woke up, I realized that I had left behind the bus stop where I had to board off. So I  boarded off the bus, and rushed back.

What prompted me to write this piece, is that once while reading the description of sunrise and the dawn-scene by a novelist, it felt like something fake and purely fabricated. So, I thought of verifying the facts, and the next day I went to the roof of my house to witness the event. I was surprised to notice each and every detail of the event, that the author had put in his words, in a real sense for the first time. I was amazed to know how all these things/events actually come across our lives on a daily basis, and how easily we fail to observe or notice them. I could also see the ease with which writer observes/notices all the details of an event which are seemingly invisible to us. So I figured out that, writers aren’t normal human beings, they are gifted.

Dedicated to all the writers around the globe, with respect and love. Keep writing and keep amazing us.

Decide What You Are-Unravel The Mysteries

Can life be so cruel to us that it won’t even let us know about the moment it leaves us in desperation for the world to carry us on their shoulders, for laying us “to rest in peace”? Or can death be so kind that it makes us realize that you ought to be in peace and you need not to worry about anything that goes around you?
Image
Life and death are such topics that mankind has always found to be mysterious. These mysteries are yet to be unraveled despite numerous attempts to do so. I’m not here to finish the quest but to know how deep the mystery goes. Is it that we don’t have to go into the realms of unknown to know the known, or we must go into the realms of known to know about the unknown? Paradoxes have been a great hindrance in our quest to understand great mysteries of this mysterious world. But on the other hand they have helped us to develop ourselves and served as a catalyst for further quest. We just need not worry about the results because that’s what adventure is all about, full of surprises and shocks. To step into the world of mysteries is like shrouding yourself in a coffin, maybe or maybe not? How far our life takes us in our quest is the real achievement, for even the ‘greats’ failed to solve small mysteries, so unraveling isn’t all that matters. Take a leap forward or turn back to the past, be it glorious or shameful, for it is where the answer lies. Can you be brave enough to leave the present so that it’s you who decides what you are? For the sake of existence, take the step or you will never know what you ought to be. You exist both in life as well as death, but what you are, is all that matters. It doesn’t matter whether you are alive or dead. The step you need to take transcends the physical aspect; you can travel the whole universe using the infinite power of imaginations. The universe is just finite while your imaginations are infinite. So, it’s not a big deal to get the whole universe into you-the past, present as well as future. Don’t limit yourself for it’s against the nature of your existence. Take the road not taken, take the path untouched, and do not fear the results for you have only stepped there to change them. If you are forced back to the qualms of limited world, free yourself from you, as only you can chain yourself. Take the step, destroy the limits, and erase the boundaries. How can anything stop you when you have the potential of being unstoppable? You belong to those who own freedom, and anyone putting limits on you is taking your freedom away, is an intruder, trying to snatch away your infinite sovereignty.
Get the facts right, no one can define your morality, no one has the right to do it, but your conscience. Your conscience doesn’t limit you, but unleashes you in the way you need to. Your life is your own; you don’t owe it anyone else. Life is not a gift, it’s an achievement. It’s beginning of a never ending journey, with death begins just another phase. Your soul answers you, whenever you ask, just keep asking. Dead don’t lack a soul they just lack the ability to ask. So, to keep the soul answering you, ask it so many questions, that it won’t be able to answer them all in your life and will have to keep answering them forever even after your ‘death’. The answers to the mysteries of universe lie in you, for you are a part of it. So keep asking your soul and body. Step up and explore the universe that lies within you. Unravel yourself to unravel the mysteries of universe. “Ask the question and be the answer to it”, is the greatest philosophy that mankind can teach. Don’t bother yourself with the preconceptions, just take them as appetizers. You are the greatest philosopher; the greatest thinker of your world, the world that belongs to you. You need not acceptance or permission of anyone to profess your ideas, for they are not the ones who traveled your world and explored it. You rule your world; you are the alpha and omega of your world. Your ideas may not stand true or acceptable in their world, don’t worry; it’s only that they have never been to your world or that they have never leaped beyond the limits. You have left behind the world of limits and boundaries, and you know how tiny their limited world looks like from outside, take a leap back and make everyone be there with you, enlightened of the infinite truth. Let them travel the infinite and vision clearly which was blurred to them.
Seek thy own blessings. Be their guide, as you have been to yourself.
